Sporting Duo One Step Closer to Carrying Olympic Flame

Loughborough College sporting duo Liam Tancock and Jermaine Miles are one step closer to selection for carrying the Olympic flame on its journey around Britain next year.

Miles, 16, is a member of the Volleyball England Academy based at the College while soon-to-be graduate Tancock has London 2012 hopes of his own in the pool.

Nominated by Elite Sport Education Officer Chris McGeorge, the pair has progressed to the next stage of the ‘Moment to Shine’ campaign. He said: “We are really pleased that they have both got through to the next stage – it would be fantastic to have our athletes involved in the torch relay next year.”

The young volleyball player (pictured right) has already had the pleasure of holding the London 2012 torch after being invited to its unveiling at St Pancras International earlier this year.

Nominations will now be reviewed by one of 12 regional selection panels who will undertake the mammoth task of picking the most inspirational individuals

from nearly 28,000 applications that have progressed to this stage.
